Advocacy for Children

Serves as liaison between the club and community resources focused on children, e.g., Sea Haven, Children’s Recovery Center, Girl Scouts, Children’s Advocacy Week and Bob Hope Reading Program, Thermometers, Pinwheel Garden, St. Jude’s.

Arts & Culture

Support the club by creating and contributing to art education in our community. Help raise public consciousness and connect members with events in the area, such as: designing/decoration projects, such as St. Patrick’s Day Float or Christmas Stocking Extravaganza.

Budget and Finance
Recommends charitable allocations, approves budget expenditures, and approves funding greater than $100

Drafts changes to the club constitution and presents to full membership club for vote

Responsible for devotions at club meetings or appointing an alternate in their absence

Communications & Publicity
Updates club website, Facebook, facilitates publicity for club news and events in area news outlets.

Civic Engagement & Outreach
Facilities volunteer opportunities for club members through community resources and projects, e.g., Helping Hands, North Strand Housing Shelter, Habitat for Humanity, Relay for Life, Crockpots for NSH Shelter, Veterans Advent Boxes, Valentines Candy for Seniors and First Responders

Education & Libraries
Organizes fundraisers and other events to promote education and literacy, collects items for “tools for school” project, raises monies for college scholarship, collects coats for kids, liaison between the Club. (Other art projects for front line defenders and elderly—provide supplies), (backpacks with snacks), socks, coats, mittens, scarves for fall and winter. Volunteer opportunities at Current Transitions, an organization that provides life skill classes for individuals with cognitive disorders and intellectual disabilities.

Libraries: Collect books donated at each club meeting and use to maintain our Little Libraries on the beach. Place bookmarks in each when available.

Environment
To support our community by participating in activities and events that preserve and restore our natural resources. This committee manages a monthly and bi-monthly beach access and parking lot clean-up through the NMB Adopt-A-Beach program (3rd Ave., S). Collect recycled plastic bags for North Strand Helping Hands, paper bags for Noah’s Ark, newspapers for the Humane Society of NMB and participate in other local beautification projects. Turtle Protection activities. Every club member is challenged to spend 15-20 minutes collecting trash left on the beach and disposing of it in beach containers.

Health & Wellness
Facilitates education and awareness of health and wellness issues. Annual health screenings, (Pap, Mamo, Colon exams), Bold and Beautiful Wigs for Cancer, Seacoast Hospital Foundation, and other in kind events.

Hospitality
Coordinates dinner reservations for meetings; collects payment for dinners; assists corresponding secretary with Hands of Friendship initiative; coordinates with Eastern District Officers for Eastern District meeting and Southern District Conference, and all club social events.  Helps with the new member orientation each spring.

Leadership
To work with new committee chairpersons to make sure they are trained correctly for the positions they volunteered for.  Chairpersons should be mentored by past officers, committee chairs, or Presidents.

Legislation & Public Policy
Designed to connect members with projects and activities relating to civic and social responsibilities.  This program focuses on citizenship, military personnel, emergency and disaster preparedness, safety & crime prevention and coordinates activities related to GFWC-SC President’s projects.

Membership
To promote club membership through recruitment activities; to recognize prospective members and provide a general understanding of membership expectations; address on-going member information needs related to membership; collect dues; and report membership data to GFWC-SC. This committee provides nametags and updated member handbooks. Members of this committee will need to function as Mentors to new members who came into the club without a sponsor for a minimum of 3 meetings to assist in learning the insights of the NMBWC.

National Day of Service (NDS)
To help combat hunger and food insecurity in our community.  This is a GFWC International wide campaign.  This annual event is held in September of each year.  Members of this committee will organize this event to be held at the NMB Irish/Italian Festival

Nominating
Prepares the slate of officers for upcoming elections, presents the slate of officers to the board members at the February meeting and to general membership in writing prior to the March meeting, facilitates the voting process and oversees the vote count. *Chaired by past president per by-laws.

Reporting

To compile club information for quarterly and annual submissions to GFWC-SC Board. Committee Chairs to assist in gathering detailed descriptions and pictures of each event in a timely manner, for the Chair to compile per GFWC regulations.

Fundraising Projects

Purses with Purpose Charity Event
Annual fundraiser open to the community: monies raised through ticket sales, sponsorships, live auction of celebrity purses and designer handbags, silent auction baskets, bling thing, and other fund-raising activities.

Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness and Prevention:This committee focuses on raising awareness of domestic violence and the resources needed to help victims. Committee members organize a domestic violence awareness walk each October. It partners with the City of North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety as well as other community organizations to provide assistance to people who have been victims of domestic violence. Some on-going programs supported by this committee and the club are the Victim’s Advocate Program, Center for Women & Children and Legislative Issues for Advocacy, Elder Abuse and Project Lifesaver, Human Trafficking Resource, Rape Crisis Resource.

Christmas Candlelight Tour of Homes: Annual fundraiser open to the community:  monies raised through ticket sales, and sponsorships; consists of a self-guided tour of five to six private homes decorated for the Christmas Season, and a raffle to win a prize.
