Civic Engagement and Outreach

Civic Engagement and Outreach Community Service Program

The Civic Engagement and Outreach Community Service Program reminds members that each of us is a part of a larger society and is responsible for undertaking actions that will create a better quality of life and foster a sense of community—locally, regionally, nationally, and globally. This Community Service Program highlights and encourages citizenship; crime prevention, safety, and disaster preparedness; the needy, hungry, and homeless; and our military personnel and veterans.

National Day of Service

The club used a three-pronged approach in 2024 to highlight and raise awareness and take action to battle food insecurity within Horry County. First, a Summer Challenge was issued to club members at the May club meeting, to collect (not buy) food within each member’s sphere of influence during their summer break then bring what they collected to the September meeting . Second, a Food Drive was held at a local grocery store on August 17. Finally, food/funds were collected on the National Day of Service at the 20th Annual International Irish Italian Festival
The grand totals were:
Summer Challenge – 2,045 lbs
Food Drive – 487 lbs along with $814.70
Irish/Italian Festival – 452 lbs along with $2894.33

With the food and fund donations collected, the NMBWC has provided 22,281 meals for distribution by Low Country Food Bank to help food insecure individuals in our city and county.

Thank You to all who took part or contributed in any way to this event!
