The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) North Myrtle Beach Woman’s Club (NMBWC), celebrating 50 years of service this year, used a three-pronged approach to highlight
and raise awareness and take action to battle food insecurity. First, a Summer Challenge was issued to club members at the May club meeting, to collect (not buy) food within each
member’s sphere of influence during their summer break (the remainder of May,June, July and August, then bring what they collected to the September meeting). Some great stories here.
Second, a Food Drive was held at a local grocery store on August 17. Finally, food/funds were collected on the National Day of Service at the 20th Annual International Irish Italian Festival.

With the food and fund donations collected, the NMBWC has provided 22,281 meals for distribution by Low Country Food Bank to help food insecure individuals in our city and county.
